SINDA, EASTERN PROVINCE, July 10, 2026 – President Hakainde Hichilema has described the turnout at his campaign rally in Sinda as unprecedented as he concluded his two-day campaign tour of Eastern Province with a renewed appeal for a second term in office.
Addressing supporters in Sinda on Friday, the United Party for National Development (UPND) presidential candidate thanked residents for what he said was an overwhelming show of support and urged them to vote for the ruling party in the August 13 General Election.
“This was our message to the wonderful people of Sinda District in Eastern Province who turned out in unprecedented numbers during our meeting today,” President Hichilema later wrote after the rally.
The President said his administration had made significant progress over the past five years but still had more work to accomplish.
“So much has been done, but there is more to be done,” he said, calling on voters to renew the UPND’s mandate.
Promises more development
President Hichilema said his government remained committed to delivering development across the country and pledged to continue investing in key sectors if re-elected.
“We shall continue to deliver because we care and love you all,” he said.
He cited agriculture, education, health and infrastructure as some of the sectors where his administration had recorded progress since assuming office in 2021.
“We are delivering in agriculture, delivering in education, delivering in health, delivering in infrastructure, among other sectors, and that is the litmus test for you to vote for us,” he told supporters.
The President also urged voters not to forget the country’s past economic challenges, arguing that the UPND inherited a difficult fiscal situation which it has worked to stabilise.
“No matter where you are, always remember where you are coming from. Those who plundered public resources and brought us debts they couldn’t fix until we fixed them, can never ever deliver anything,” he said.
Sinda’s political significance
Sinda is regarded as one of the politically important constituencies in Eastern Province and is represented within the UPND campaign by the President’s Political Aide, Levy Ngoma, a former Member of Parliament for the constituency.
The rally marked the end of President Hichilema’s two-day campaign tour of Eastern Province, where he has been seeking support ahead of next month’s elections.
The UPND is campaigning on its record in government, highlighting achievements such as free education, economic reforms, infrastructure development, health services and agricultural support programmes.
Meanwhile, opposition parties, led by the Tonse Pamodzi Alliance and NRP-UP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile, continue campaigning in other parts of the country, promising alternative policies on the economy, education, agriculture and governance.
With just weeks remaining before polling day on August 13, campaigns have intensified across Zambia as political parties make their final appeal to voters.
