Land Expert and Research Dr. Priscilla Nsama has castigated the Ministry of Lands for failing to create strategies that would expedite the process of acquiring title deeds.

 Speaking in an interview with the Zambian Business Times – ZBT, Dr. Nsama wondered why the process takes longer, despite the initiation of the digital platform. Several members of the public have bemoaned that the exercise is strenuous and slow, requiring one to wait even as long as four years.

 A status quo that highlights that the administrative lapses that exist in the government and the land sector in particular. Despite the introduction of an online service, many members of the public, including Dr. Nsama, have revealed to the Zambian Business Times – ZBT, that nothing much changed.

 “It is deeply disappointing that it would take four years just for one to acquire a title; we urge the Ministry of Lands to adequately address this matter urgently.” Further information revealed indicates that much of the sector is reliant on manual processing in files and physical document verification.

Titled land is essential for security, and the government must take decisive measures to ensure that the process is expedited and reforms are initiated. According to information obtained by the Zambian Business, there are only about 1.5 million titles that have been issued so far.
