Democratic Union (DU) Presidential Candidate Ackim Antony Njobvu has pledged to scrap the current monthly fuel price review, saying it is creating uncertainty for businesses.

Speaking during the 2026 Presidential Debate hosted by Diamond TV at the Mulungushi International Conference Center on Tuesday night, Njobvu said frequent adjustments make it difficult for companies to plan.

He said building strategic fuel reserves would also help as well as looking at other fuel alternatives in addressing the fuel crisis.

“The monthly review on fuel is an inconvenience to businesses. As DU we will not continue with it but will put in place a quarterly review,” Njobvu said.

“Businesses focus on planning, but with the current monthly review, it becomes difficult.”

He argued that transporters, manufacturers, and retailers are among the most affected because fuel is a major input cost. A quarterly system, he said, would give the business community more predictability.

The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) currently reviews fuel pump prices every month, based on international oil prices, exchange rates, and other cost factors.
