IF your passport gets cancelled while you are in a foreign country, that reason alone may compel that country to grant you asylum in most cases.

Asylum means the host government will start taking care of your basic needs, such as accommodation, transportation and food. They may even offer you jobs because they will now assume that your own country wants to harm you.

The disadvantage is that you can nolonger make an international movement unless UN issues you a Refugee Travel Document (RTD).

Also if you leave the country you lose the asylum status.
