Don’t treat Hichilema as President of the Republic of Zambia-Kambwili
FORMER Information Minister Chishimba Kambwili says President Hakainde Hichilema should not be treated as President of the Republic of Zambia when it comes to the election campaign programme.
Kambwili complains that President Hichilema has started returning to provinces where he has already conducted campaign activities, a move he describes as unfair to other presidential candidates.
“We were all given five days in each province. Once you do those five days, you don’t go back. But Hakainde Hichilema is using the incumbency to even go back two or three times in the same province.
“This is not fair to other presidential candidates,” Kambwili says.
He calls on the Electoral Commission of Zambia to ensure that rules are applied and adhered to equally.
“President Hakainde Hichilema must not be treated as President of the Republic of Zambia in terms of the campaign programme. He is a candidate like any other candidate.
“So, it is not right that he goes to the Copperbelt. Once NRPUP-Tonse goes to the Copperbelt, he goes back to the Copperbelt. The rules must be fair to everybody,” Kambwili says.
He says all candidates were allocated five days to campaign in each province and that the same rules should apply.
“He was on the Copperbelt for five days. Again, he wants to go back to the Copperbelt Province after the other candidates go there. It is unfair,” he says.
Kambwili further alleges that election rigging does not only occur on polling day but can begin during the preparation stage.
“When you talk about rigging an election, rigging is not only on the actual day. Rigging starts from the preparation of the election to the actual date of the election,” he says.
He also urges the Electoral Commission of Zambia—ECZ to ensure fairness in managing the campaign programme.
“I want to warn the Electoral Commission of Zambia, be fair with everybody. President Hakainde Hichilema must not be allowed to go back to the provinces he has already been to,” Kambwili says.
