THE ARCHDIOCESE of Lusaka has called on Catholic faithful to attend a special Solidarity Mass in honour of Archbishop Dr. Alick Banda, who has been summoned by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC).

The Mass will be held at the Cathedral of the Child Jesus on Monday, September 28, 2026, at 08:00 hours, before Archbishop Banda proceeds to the DEC at 10:00 hours.

In a statement issued through its Communications Office, the Archdiocese expressed “deep concern and unwavering solidarity” with Archbishop Banda following the renewed summons.

The Archdiocese said it was particularly concerned about the Archbishop’s safety and well-being, and called on the clergy, religious and lay faithful to remain united in prayer, calm in spirit and steadfast in faith as he responds to the summons in accordance with the law.

“Our Archbishop is not alone. He remains a shepherd surrounded by his flock, and the Church stands firmly with him in prayer, communion and solidarity,” the Archdiocese said.

The Church further urged the faithful not to fear, but to remain vigilant in prayer and steadfast in their commitment to truth, justice and peace.

It has also called for prayers for Archbishop Banda’s safety, strength, wisdom and well-being, as well as for justice, truth and peace to prevail throughout the process.

“We encourage all the faithful who are able to do so to attend this Mass and stand together as one family. Let us be united in prayer, steadfast in faith, peaceful in spirit, and unwavering in our pursuit of truth,” the Archdiocese said.

The Solidarity Mass is being held under the theme, “Stay here and keep watch with me,” from Matthew 26:38.

The Archdiocese said it was placing its trust in God and entrusting Archbishop Banda to God’s providence, confident that the Lord would sustain and guide him through the moment.

It further entrusted the Archbishop’s cause and the Archdiocese of Lusaka to the maternal intercession of the Blessed Lady and Our Lady of Lusaka, the Mother of the Child Jesus.
