DEC REFUTES CLAIMS OF POLITICAL ARREST ORDER AGAINST BRIAN MUNDUBILE
By Patricia Mbewe
The Drug Enforcement Commission -DEC- has refuted false and malicious claims circulating on social media alleging that its Director General Nason Banda has directed the arrest and detention of National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity -NRPUP- presidential candidate Brian Mundubile for political reasons.
DEC Deputy Public Relations Officer Theresa Mawere said the commission is a professional law enforcement agency established under the laws of Zambia and carries out its mandate independently, impartially and within the constitution..
Ms. Mawere stated that the commission does not initiate investigations or arrests based on political considerations, directives or affiliations and that any investigative process undertaken by the commission is guided solely by credible evidence and the provisions of the law.
She explained that decisions relating to investigations and arrests are made through established legal procedures and are not influenced by any political interests.
Ms. Mawere says the commission therefore finds allegations that the director general instructed officers to arrest Mr. Mundubile to influence the political landscape as false, irresponsible and intended to mislead the public while undermining confidence in the integrity of the institution.
