Consortium of CSOs on Governance and Constitutionalism has distanced itself from suggestions that civil society groups have called for a Government of National Unity.
Consortium Chairperson Isaac Mwanza stated that neither the Consortium nor himself have ever made such a proposal.
He observed that President Hakainde Hichilema won the election with a resounding 60 per cent victory announced by the Electoral Commission of Zambia.
Mwanza noted that the Consortium’s own Parallel Vote Tabulation confirmed the election result.
He advanced that any suggestion of a Government of National Unity is baseless and unsupported by both law and facts.

Mwanza said that President Hichilema himself called for national unity, reconciliation and healing during his acceptance speech.
He affirmed that this message of unity must be preached by every Zambian regardless of party affiliation.
Mwanza emphasised that the Consortium called for the release of detainees while respecting the rule of law.
He added that the Courts have started granting bail to those detained without trial, which is welcomed.
Mwanza further reminded the courts and Police that the President has consistently supported bail for bailable offences and expedited trials.
He reiterated the President’s call for national unity, reconciliation and healing through coexistence for both victors and losers.
Mwanza further said that the 2026 election result showed that democracy won in Zambia.
