RABAT, MOROCCO – Zambia’s Copper Queens produced a dominant display on Tuesday evening, thrashing Egypt 6-0 in their final Group C match of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) to book their place in the quarter-finals.
Captain Barbra Banda starred for the Copper Queens, scoring twice as Zambia overwhelmed the Egyptians from start to finish in one of their most convincing performances of the tournament.
Banda’s brace set the tone for a ruthless attacking display as Zambia repeatedly broke through Egypt’s defence, with four other goals completing the emphatic victory.
The result sees the Copper Queens finish the group stage in style and advance to the knockout rounds with renewed confidence as they continue their quest for a first Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.
Zambia controlled possession for long spells and created numerous scoring opportunities, while Egypt struggled to contain the pace and movement of the Copper Queens’ attacking line.
Banda once again demonstrated why she is regarded as one of Africa’s finest footballers, leading by example and taking her tally for the tournament higher with another clinical performance. The Orlando Pride striker has been instrumental in Zambia’s campaign and continues to inspire Bruce Mwape’s side on the continental stage.
The comprehensive victory will provide a major confidence boost for Zambia heading into the quarter-finals, where the Copper Queens will face tougher opposition as they seek to improve on previous WAFCON performances.
With world-class forwards such as Barbra Banda and Racheal Kundananji spearheading the attack, Zambia has once again underlined its credentials as one of the tournament’s strongest contenders.
The Copper Queens are now just one victory away from reaching the semi-finals as they continue their pursuit of continental glory in Morocco.
