CHINA REPORTEDLY ASKED UKRAINE NOT TO STRIKE VLADIVOSTOK

China reportedly asked Ukraine to refrain from striking Vladivostok while Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang and a Chinese delegation attended the Eastern Economic Forum.

Kyodo News reported that Kyiv accepted the temporary request and agreed not to conduct attacks in the area while the delegation remained there. The information comes from unnamed informed sources and has not been publicly confirmed by either government.

Vladivostok lies more than 6,500 kilometers from Ukraine. There is no evidence that Ukraine had actually planned an attack there, but Beijing’s request reveals how seriously foreign governments now take Ukraine’s ability to conduct operations deep inside Russia.

Kyodo suggested that China may have been concerned about an operation resembling Spiderweb, in which drones were secretly positioned inside Russia before striking strategic aircraft thousands of kilometers from Ukraine.

The episode also demonstrates Ukraine’s restraint. Kyiv reportedly honored a request intended to protect a foreign delegation—even as China continues deep economic cooperation with the country financing and conducting the invasion.

China may describe itself as neutral, but its concern was unmistakable: nowhere supporting Russia’s war machine can automatically be assumed beyond Ukraine’s reach.
