Man of the moment, and National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and his running mate Makebi Zulu invaded Kabwe with an energetic roadshow that brought the town to a standstill.

The two leaders’ entry into the area was characterised by residents lining up the streets to get a glimpse of the event, as they drove through.

From there, Mundubile and his deputy Zulu proceeded to Kapiri Mposhi where they held a rally, and their message was simple yet straightforward: Zambia must be “one people, one nation, and one tribe,” indivisible, free from the chains of regionalism. He said President Hakainde Hichilema and his administration will be voted out for failure to honour their own promises.

“The vote is coming to us because the people have witnessed nothing but broken promises these last five years,” shouted Mundubile, with his voice giving a feedback echo from the hills.

Mundubile pledged to revive the TAZARA Railway, describing it as a great asset conceived by Kenneth Kaunda and Julius Nyerere, financed by China and forgiven by Mao Zedong, but now limping like a wounded beast.

“We shall put Kapiri back on the map,” Mundubile vowed, promising to create jobs, trade, and dignity.

He also spoke of subsidised agricultural inputs for small farmers whom he declared are being “ignored by the current government,” stressing that prosperity must return to the soil.

His running mate Zulu told the crowd that they should give Mundubile a chance, saying he has vast knowledge of how a country is run. “Vote for my older brother President Mundubile because he knows how to get the job done,” he said.

Mundubile said when they form government after 13th August, they will introduce two youth empowerment programmes: “Drive to Own” for motor vehicle drivers and “Ride to Own” for motorbike riders.

He pointed out that these initiatives will provide vehicles and motorbikes on flexible credit.

“This will enable young people to work, earn a decent income and eventually own the assets they use to build their livelihoods.

“Our goal is to create opportunities, promote ownership and empower more young Zambians to achieve economic independence,” he said.

Mundubile and Zulu’s last port of call was Luano, where they reminded citizens of Central Province of the looming opportunities, adding that jobs must be available to every Zambian, not reserved for a select few.

In Luano, the citizens braved the chilling night as they listened to the new promises of hope and a functioning economy.

Zulu thanked the people for coming out in their numbers and for braving the night only to listen to their message.

“Mwebena LUANO mulibantu abasuma sana.

“It is inspiring to see the people of Masansa in Luano District of Central Province braving the cold night just to listen to President Brian Mundubile the voice of Hope and National Restoration.

“The fact that they have waited for President Brian Mundubile and I the whole day just to see and hear the message we have for them is testament to their resolve to Change Government come August 13th 2026.

“To the people of Masansa, Luano and Zambia entirely. We will never let you down, we shall serve you as you deserve to be served, with humility and sincerity,” he said.

Apparently, speaking earlier on, Mundubile condemned acts of violence as the country heads for polls on 13 August 2026, saying it is uncalled for.

“The reported loss of lives as a result of electoral violence is a national tragedy that should concern every citizen regardless of political affiliation. Every life matters and violence has no place in our democracy.

“I call upon the Head of State President Hakainde Hichilema to publicly condemn these acts of violence and assure the nation that those responsible will be identified and brought to justice. The Zambian people deserve leadership that speaks clearly against political violence.

“We have also noted a video circulating on social media showing individuals wearing NRPUP regalia while carrying pangas. We wish to state in the strongest terms that these individuals are not members of NRPUP.

“We believe this is a deliberate attempt to misrepresent our party and associate our peaceful movement with acts of violence.

“Today, we successfully held our 39th campaign rally. Throughout our campaign, we have remained peaceful, orderly and law-abiding.

“Our message continues to be one of hope, unity and democratic change. Violence has no place in our campaign or in the Zambia we seek to build.

“I urge all NRPUP members, supporters and well-wishers to remain calm, disciplined and peaceful at all times. Let us continue to show that our strength lies in the confidence of the Zambian people and not in intimidation or violence,” he said.

As Zambia counts down about 23 days to the August 13 election, bookmakers are whispering that the race is now a duel between Mundubile, the opposition’s “new kid on the block,” and President Hakainde Hichilema, the incumbent.

Mundubile, just 55, carries with him the advantage of fresh energy, while Hichilema, 64, wears the heavy crown of incumbency amid reports of unfulfilled promises and unfinished jobs.
