Airtel Africa has reaffirmed its commitment to digital inclusion and social economic transformation, highlighting its positive contribution to national development through impactful programmes and partnerships.

Speaking during the Airtel Africa 2025/2026 sustainability report attended by Zambian Business Times, ZBT Group Chief Executive Officer Sunil Taldar noted Airtel Zambia’s role in bridging digital gaps, particularly through its partnership with UNICEF, which has seen 300 schools connected to the internet across the country.

“The initiative has reached over 292 thousand learners and empowered about 500 teachers with access to digital tools and learning platforms, enhancing the quality of education and expanding access to information in underserved communities,” said Taldar.

He added that Airtel Zambia has continued to invest in education infrastructure through its school adoption programme. “Over the past year, the company has adopted five schools across Mufulira, Chipata, Solwezi, Mansa, Chipata, and Mongu, providing classroom blocks, computer laboratories, internet connectivity and improved sanitation facilities, with two schools successfully handed over to Chipata and Solwezi,” said Taldar.

He emphasized that the interventions have contributed to improved learning environments and increased learner enrolment, reinforcing Airtel’s commitment to long-term social development. Taldar also mentioned Airtel’s efforts in driving entrepreneurship, which have supported economic empowerment and trained more than 500 innovators.

“Through the ZICTA Innovation Challenge, the company has trained more than 500 innovators, supported the commercialization of over 30 start-ups and facilitated the creation of more than 200 direct jobs,” said Taldar. Taldar reaffirmed Airtel’s commitment to scaling these initiatives and strengthening partnerships that drive inclusive growth, ensuring that more individuals and communities benefit from the opportunities created by a connected and digital future.
