About The Hunger Project–Zambia: The Hunger Project–Zambia (THP-Z) is a registered non-governmental organization under the NGO Act of 2009 and part of The Global Hunger Project, founded in 1977 with offices in 22 countries worldwide. THP-Z works to end chronic hunger and poverty by pioneering sustainable, grassroots, women-centered strategies and advocating for their widespread adoption. THP-Z implements projects through the Epicenter Strategy, mobilizing rural communities into dynamic centers of action to meet their own basic needs and achieve sustainable self-reliance through community-led development. Project: Food Second Pilot – Ching’ombe Epicentre, Zambia Funded by: The Petre Foundation and SKIP Foundation About the Project: The Food Second project aims to enhance production capacity of farmers and increase food security in the Ching’ombe community. The project will work with approximately 530 farmers across Ching’ombe and Kamwanza wards of Sinda District, introducing hybrid seeds, climate-smart farming practices, market linkages, and agri-business training to reduce hunger and support sustainable livelihoods through a community-led development approach. Position Summary: We are seeking a young, dynamic, qualified and motivated Project Agronomist to support the implementation of agricultural activities under the Food Second project in Ching’ombe Epicentre, Sinda District. The successful candidate will facilitate community-led initiatives that empower farmers to take ownership of their agricultural development and food security. Reporting Line: The Project Agronomist will report to the Program Manager/Epicenter project Officer. Key Responsibilities: Facilitate community-led training and capacity building in seed management, climate-resilient farming, and agri-business Support establishment and management of Farmer Field Schools using participatory and community-driven approaches Assist communities in the development and operation of the Seed Multiplication Centre Empower farmers to develop their own business plans and establish market linkages Promote climate-smart agricultural practices through community mobilization and women-centered development strategies Facilitate grassroots action and collective decision-making among farming communities Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities with community participation. Facilitate community-led training and capacity building in seed management, climate-resilient farming, and agri-business Work closely with local farmers and community stakeholders to strengthen self-reliance and local ownership Minimum Qualifications: Diploma in Agronomy, Agriculture, or related fields (Crop Science, Horticulture, Agricultural Extension, Soil Science) Valid motorcycle riding license and ability to ride a motorbike Minimum 3 years of practical experience in agricultural extension, farming systems, or related field work Preferably a resident of Sinda District Knowledge of local languages and familiarity with the local area Strong facilitation, communication and community engagement skills Commitment to gender equality, inclusive development, and community empowerment Desirable Skills: Experience in climate-smart agriculture and sustainable farming practices Knowledge of seed multiplication and farmer training methodologies Experience working with smallholder farmers using participatory approaches Understanding of market linkages and agri-business development Experience in community mobilization, facilitation, and community-led development approaches Ability to build local capacity and promote self-reliance Application Deadline: 7 July 2026 How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit their application letter, detailed CV, copies of relevant certificates, and contact details of three professional referees to: thpzambia.recruitment@thp.org Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
