Position Overview: Geographic Information Systems Officer The primary responsibility of the Geographic Information Systems Officer is to manage and optimize GIS applications and geospatial data. This role supports asset management, operational planning, and maintenance of water and sanitation infrastructure. The officer will enable evidence-based decision-making to reduce non-revenue water and improve service delivery throughout the utility’s service areas. Key Responsibilities for Geographic Information Systems Officer Jobs in Chipata Develop and maintain GIS applications aligned with evolving business needs. Plan and coordinate GIS activities to achieve organizational goals. Establish and enforce quality control standards for GIS systems. Perform data capture, analysis, and management for GIS products. Support the design and development of the geospatial database. Maintain accurate and current geospatial documentation and records. Stay informed on the latest GIS technologies and industry developments. Manage geospatial databases, develop maps, and utilize aerial photography. Qualifications and Experience Grade 12 Certificate with at least five ‘O’ levels including English and Mathematics. Bachelor’s Degree in Geomatics, Surveying, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or equivalent. Minimum of three years post-qualification experience in a similar GIS role. Valid registration and subscription with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) or Surveyors Institute of Zambia (SIZ) where applicable. Technical Skills Required Proficiency with GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, QGIS, ERDAS, and ENVI. Experience with spatial databases including PostGIS, SQL Server, and Oracle Spatial. Familiarity with water industry tools like EPANET, Water GEMS, ArcHydro, and QWater. Remote sensing skills, including Landsat and Sentinel image processing for land use and leakage detection. Programming knowledge in Python (ArcPy) and JavaScript for web-based GIS applications.
