General News 2 min.Read ZANAMACA rolls out recapitalisation fund for over 300 CB traders By Guest Editor July 30, 2026 FacebookTwitterPinterestWhatsAppThe Zambia National Marketeers Credit Association (ZANAMACA) has launched a business recapitalisation programme targeting more than 300 marketeers and traders in Kitwe and Ndola districts.
The programme is aimed at expanding access to affordable financing and strengthening small businesses in the informal sector.
In a statement issued to the media by Informal Economy Operators President, Mupila Kameya, the initiative, under the Marketeers Credit Scheme, will provide qualifying beneficiaries with working capital ranging from K1,000 to K3,000 at a concessionary interest rate of 2.9 percent.
Mr Kameya stated that the scheme will use practical collateral arrangements such as market stalls, shops, trading spaces and group guarantees.
He indicated that the programme is intended to empower traders who have traditionally struggled to access affordable financing from conventional financial institutions.
He explained that thriving markets are critical to economic growth, community development and national stability, adding that peaceful and organised trading spaces create opportunities for businesses to flourish.
“A peaceful, organised and productive market creates opportunity. It enables traders to grow their businesses, support their families, educate their children and contribute to the local economy,” he said.
Mr Kameya further appealed to marketeers, market leaders and other stakeholders to preserve peace and maintain the non-partisan character of markets as the country approaches the election period.
“Markets belong to every hardworking Zambian. They must remain places where business thrives freely, safely and without fear,” Mr Kameya said.
He noted that although the informal economy remains one of Zambia’s strongest economic pillars, many traders continue to face challenges in accessing affordable working capital needed to restock and expand their businesses.
He said the Marketeers Credit Scheme is designed to bridge that gap by providing affordable financing that will enable traders to improve cash flow, increase stock levels and build sustainable enterprises.
Mr Kameya disclosed that the initial phase of the programme is targeting major trading centres in the Copperbelt Province, with priority being given to women and young traders, particularly those dealing in fresh produce and other perishable commodities.
He added that the initiative has been structured as a revolving fund to ensure that repayments from beneficiaries are reinvested to support more traders across the country.
“This is not simply financial support. It is an investment in enterprise,” Mr Kameya said.
He further revealed that the recapitalisation programme will be complemented by financial literacy and business management training which will be conducted in partnership with the Zambia National Building Society and other financial institutions.
Mr Kameya also called on the private sector, development partners and financial institutions to support the initiative so that more marketeers across Zambia can benefit from affordable business financing.
