School authorities at Mwase Primary School in Lundazi District have exposed an alleged attempt by the father of a 13-year-old Grade Six pupil to conceal a defilement case after reportedly being promised K15,000 by the suspect.

The incident involves 29-year-old Pezani Mwale of Riverside Compound in the Mwase area, who is alleged to have defiled the minor after forcing her to drink an unknown alcoholic substance that caused her to lose consciousness.

Eastern Province Police Commissioner, Robertson Mweemba, confirmed the incident to ZANIS, saying it occurred on July 25, 2026, around 20:00 hours and was reported to Mwase Police Post on July 28 at about 07:00 hours.

Mr Mweemba said the matter came to light after school authorities received information about the alleged offence and alerted police.

He explained that Mwase Primary School Head Teacher, Peter Chisi, 50, tasked the school’s guidance teacher with interviewing the victim after receiving the report from a teacher.

“The victim confirmed the defilement incident during the interview, while her father admitted that he was aware of what had happened, “he said.

The Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer said the victim’s father further disclosed that the suspect had allegedly offered him K15,000 to conceal the matter.

“Police investigations indicate that the victim had been in the company of two other juvenile girls at her aunt’s house when the suspect allegedly entered the room carrying a bottle containing an unknown alcoholic substance, “he said.

Mr Mweemba said the suspect allegedly forced the three girls to drink the liquid, and when the victim resisted, he grabbed her by the neck and forced the substance down her throat.

“The victim reportedly lost consciousness while the other two girls fled from the scene.

“When she regained consciousness, she discovered that she was bleeding from her private parts and immediately informed her mother, “he said.

Mr. Mweemba said that the suspect later approached the victim’s parents and allegedly offered them K15,000 in exchange for their silence over the incident.

He said police managed to apprehend the suspect, who is expected to appear in court soon.
