President Hakainde Hichilema has reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding Zambia’s peace and unity, describing the two as the foundation for sustained national development.

 President Hichilema adds that peace has enabled government to implement key economic and social programmes across the country.

“Peace is the cornerstone of development. Without peace, there can be no meaningful progress,” President Hichilema states.

And speaking when he addressed thousands of residents in Pemba District of Southern Province, President Hichilema urged citizens to vote for the UPND in the August 13 General Elections, saying the party remains committed to delivering on its development agenda.

Mr Hichilema said government has increased the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) from K1.6 million to K40.8 million per constituency, enabling communities to undertake infrastructure projects and support skills development, secondary school bursaries and community empowerment initiatives.

He further noted that the Free Education Policy has now been signed into law, resulting in more than 2.5 million children returning to school, a development he said must be protected as it demonstrates government’s commitment to expanding access to education.

“Every Zambian child deserves an opportunity to learn, and that is why we made free education a reality,” he said.

The Head of State also pledged to upgrade rural roads in Pemba and construct a district hospital to improve access to healthcare services.

“Development must reach every part of Zambia, and no community will be left behind,” President Hichilema assured.

Mr Hichilema further noted that the government has also created more employment opportunities and continued implementing policies aimed at improving the livelihoods of citizens through economic growth and investment.

The President therefore stressed that another term in office would allow the government to consolidate the development gains recorded since 2021.

He also cautioned citizens against being misled by opposition political parties, saying they should make informed decisions that would preserve peace, unity and continued national development.

“Protect our peace, safeguard our unity and support the continued development of our country,” President Hichilema said.
