Zambia : Muf Wanderers Hire New CEO Mvula

MTN Super Division side Mighty Mufulira Wanderers have confirmed the appointment of promising sports administrator Mangulenje Mvula as their new Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.

Mvula arrives at Shinde Stadium a day after resigning as Trident Football Club CEO.

“Mufulira Wanderers Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Mvula Mangulenje as our new Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately,” Wanderers announced on Thursday morning.

“Mr. Mvula brings extensive experience in football leadership, having served as CEO of Trident FC and Jumulo FC,” the statement added.

Mvula inherits the Wanderers CEO’s seat from club loyalist Mumba Mwila.

Mvula is a FIFA-certified football administrator and current Manager of the Zambia U20 Boys National Team.

Meanwhile, when Mvula walked into Trident Football Club offices in 2022, the Kalumbila side was a National League team with ambition but no guarantees.

Four years later, he leaves a club that has tasted Super League football twice, reached an ABSA Cup semi-final, and established itself as one of Northwestern Province’s flagship sporting brands.

On Wednesday, Trident FC announced Mvula’s departure following his formal resignation, closing a chapter that redefined the club’s trajectory.

Mvula arrived at a time when Trident was pushing to be more than just a mining-town team. His brief was clear: professionalize the administration and get results on the pitch.
He delivered both.

The headline achievement came in the 2022/2023 season when Trident won the National League and secured promotion to the Zambia Super League for the first time. It was a breakthrough that put Kalumbila on the national football map.

Even after relegation battles, the club bounced back. In 2024, Trident reached the semi-finals of the ABSA Cup, proving they could compete with the country’s elite in knockout football.

Then in 2026, the club secured qualification to the Super League again, underlining that 2022/23 was not a fluke.

“During his tenure, Mr. Mvula Mangulenje made a valuable contribution to the Club’s administration, development and overall growth,” the club said in its official statement.

Those inside the club say Mvula’s impact went beyond trophies. He oversaw structural changes: tighter financial controls, improved player welfare, better scouting networks, and stronger community engagement in Kalumbila and surrounding districts.

For a club owned by a mining company, that meant aligning football ambitions with corporate governance — something Mangulenje, a career administrator, was brought in to do.

The result was stability. In an era where many clubs struggle with debt and management wrangles, Trident operated with a clear chain of command and a development plan.

With Mvula stepping down, Trident has moved quickly to ensure continuity.

General Secretary Jones Mwiza will assume the role of Acting Chief Executive Officer until the end of the current season. The club says a permanent appointment will be communicated in due course.

Club President Mainza Mazuba thanked Mvula for his service.

“On behalf of the Club, I extend sincere appreciation to Mr. Mvula for his service and contribution, and wish him every success in his future endeavours,” Mazuba said.

The statement added: “The Club remains committed to ensuring a smooth transition and maintaining continuity in its operations as it prepares for the next phase of its development.”
