President Hakainde Hichilema has announced the discovery of new copper deposits near the 600 million United States dollars Kitumba Mine in Mumbwa District, Central Province.

President Hichilema says the copper deposits, which were discovered last month, have significant mineral reserves, adding that these prospects will create employment opportunities for young people in the area.

The Head of State reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting safe, legal, and formalised mining activities in the district.

He added that local people will be given priority when employment opportunities become available at the new site.

Meanwhile, President Hichilema has reaffirmed government’s commitment to upgrading key road infrastructure in the district, saying the Chibuluma-Namwala Road, Farmers-Blue Lagoon Road, and the Mumbwa-Ngabwe-Kasempa road will be upgraded to bituminous standard.

He said works on the 68-kilometre Farmers–Blue Lagoon road are progressing well.

The President further announced that the government will upgrade Mumbwa District Hospital into a bigger hospital, equipped with modern facilities and adequate health personnel.

President Hichilema also stated that township roads in Mumbwa will be upgraded to tarmac.
