Zambia : FRA Buys Over 17,000 Bags Of Maize-Kasama

Over 17, 500 bags of maize have been purchased by the Food Reserve Agency FRA at Mwamba satellite depot in Kasama district in Northern Province.

Mwamba satellite depot Clerk Elizabeth Chilolo says the maize purchase process is going on smoothly.

She told the media in an interview in Kasama district today that the farmers are cooperating with the officers employed by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA).

“So far work is going on smoothly without any challenges, the farmers and buyers are cooperating with us,” Ms Chilolo explained.

She said the Mwamba depot was officially opened on August 1st and purchase of maize commenced.

“We started buying maize on August 1st from the farmers and we have bought over 17 500 bags of maize,” Ms Chilolo said.

Emmanuel Mutale, a farmer in Chief Mwamba’s chiefdom praised the FRA for conducting a smooth process in the on-going crop marketing season.

Mr Mutale says the farmers have enough bags as well, making it easier for them to package the maize.

He has however called for transporters to continue transporting the maize as the stack at the depot is almost full.

“I want to appeal to the transporters to speed up the process of collecting the maize so that we create enough space for maize which has not been bought yet,” Mr Mutale appealed.

He added that if the transporters delay in transporting commodities, it will affect the purchase of maize at the depot.
