Approximately 300 thousand residents of Kalomo District of Southern Province are set to benefit more from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation following the delimitation exercise.

Kalomo District Commissioner, Joshua Sikaduli, says the district being among the most populous districts in the province will benefit from delimitation.

Mr Sikaduli also stated that development will be distributed equally among residents in the district after dividing the constituency in three from two previously.

He explained that before the exercise, Kalomo only had two constituencies namely Kalomo Central and Dundumwezi.

Mr Sikaduli, however, stated that Kalomo Central was divided by two, which saw the creation of Kalomo South, thereby bringing the number of constituencies in the area to three.

“When you look at the setup of the district, we are talking about close to 300 thousand people. The delimitation has come at the right time, Kalomo is one of the largest districts in Southern Province. With delimitation, the development will be spread out equitably,” he said.

The District Commissioner added that CDF has been a major success citing the recently graded Namwianga road, which will ease access to goods and services between Central Business District and Chief Sipatunyana’s area.

Mr Sikaduli also said three major dams have been constructed since 2022 in the district which have improved water supply.

He named the facilities as Mubanga Dam, Nankoka Dam and Kalonda Dam, all constructed using CDF.
