Updated: September 3, 2026
Zambia’s 2026 General Election produced the country’s first National Assembly elected under the revised electoral system introduced by the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act No. 13 of 2025.
The number of constituency-based seats increased from 156 to 226, following the creation of 70 new constituencies. The new system also provides for 40 proportional-representation seats — 20 for women, 15 for youths and five for persons with disabilities — as well as nominated members.
The parliamentary election was held on August 13, 2026.
This page records the constituency-based parliamentary results and is intended as a searchable reference for readers, researchers, journalists and political stakeholders.
CURRENT CONSTITUENCY SEAT SUMMARY
Based on the constituency results compiled following the August 13 election, 224 of the 226 constituency seats have elected representatives, while two constituencies remain outstanding.

WHAT HAPPENED IN THE TWO OUTSTANDING CONSTITUENCIES?
Lumezi North
The Lumezi North parliamentary election did not take place on August 13 after NRPUP candidate Clement Mwale died before polling day.
ECZ subsequently indicated that the election had to be cancelled and that the sponsoring party would be allowed to file a fresh nomination. The requirement arises from Article 52 of the Constitution, which provides for cancellation of a parliamentary election where a party-sponsored candidate dies before the election.
Lumezi North therefore remains one of the two constituency seats without an elected MP from the August 13 poll.
Mandevu
Mandevu is no longer simply an unconfirmed result.
On August 28, ECZ announced that it would conduct a fresh parliamentary election in Mandevu.
According to ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro, unknown individuals attacked the constituency’s totalling centre on August 18, destroyed result-transmission equipment and fled with election documentation. The incident left the Returning Officer unable to declare the parliamentary result.
ECZ consequently resolved to hold a fresh parliamentary election, with the date to be announced.

OUTSTANDING SEATS
Lumezi North
Status: Election postponed
The seat was not contested on August 13 following the death of NRPUP candidate Clement Mwale. A fresh electoral process is required.
Mandevu
Status: Fresh parliamentary election ordered
ECZ has resolved to conduct a fresh election after the August 18 attack on the Mandevu totalling centre made it impossible for the Returning Officer to declare a result. The date of the fresh election is yet to be announced.
HOW THE 2026 NATIONAL ASSEMBLY IS STRUCTURED
The 2026 election is the first held under Zambia’s new mixed-member proportional representation system.
The Constitution provides for:
- 226 constituency-based MPs, elected using the first-past-the-post system;
- 40 proportional-representation MPs, comprising 20 women, 15 youths and five persons with disabilities;
- up to 11 nominated MPs;
- the Vice-President;
- the Speaker; and
- the First and Second Deputy Speakers.
The 226 constituency seats are therefore only part of the full composition of the National Assembly.
NOTE ON THE RESULTS
This reference page is based on constituency-level results compiled from election declarations and published election records.
ECZ’s official website confirms that Zambia has 226 constituencies following the 2026 delimitation exercise.
Because post-election compilations have reported differences in party totals and because two constituency elections remain outstanding, the party totals on this page should be read alongside the individual constituency entries.
Zambian Eye will update this page when ECZ announces further results, corrections or the dates and outcomes of the fresh elections in Lumezi North and Mandevu.
