U.S. Launches Third Round of Strikes on Iran This Week

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces began a third round of strikes against Iran at 7:15 p.m. ET, following what it described as an attack by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on the M/V GFS Galaxy, a Cyprus-flagged container ship transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

According to CENTCOM, the attack left one civilian crew member missing, while the vessel suffered an onboard fire and significant engine room damage, preventing it from continuing its voyage.

The U.S. military stated that Iran had been given another opportunity to comply with the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) following previous attacks on commercial shipping but had failed to do so.

CENTCOM said the latest strikes are intended to degrade Iran’s capability to attack civilian mariners and commercial vessels operating through the Strait of Hormuz. The operation was carried out under the direction of the Commander in Chief, according to the statement.
