UPND CAUTIONS MEMBERS AGAINST OBSCURING VEHICLE NUMBER PLATES WITH CAMPAIGN POSTERS

Lusaka, July 11, 2026 – The United Party for National Development (UPND) has received reports that some individuals are allegedly placing President Hakainde Hichilema’s campaign posters over vehicle number plates, thereby obscuring vehicle registration details.

As the governing party, we wish to make it abundantly clear that this practice is unlawful and is not sanctioned by the UPND.

We therefore strongly caution all our members, supporters and the general public to immediately desist from covering or obstructing vehicle number plates with campaign posters or any other material.

While we encourage every Zambian to proudly support and market President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND, such support must always be demonstrated within the confines of the laws and traffic regulations of the Republic of Zambia.

President Hakainde Hichilema has consistently championed the rule of law, discipline, order and responsible leadership. Under his administration, Zambia has witnessed the end of political caderism and the restoration of law and order. As members of the UPND, we must never engage in conduct that undermines these achievements or creates the impression that we are above the law.

Our members should be torchbearers of the President’s vision by demonstrating respect for the law in both word and deed. Campaigning should reflect the values of integrity, responsibility and compliance with all legal requirements.

The UPND therefore urges all members and supporters to ensure that campaign materials are displayed only in lawful and appropriate places that do not violate traffic regulations or compromise public safety.

Let us continue conducting our campaign peacefully, responsibly and in a manner that reflects the leadership and values of President Hakainde Hichilema and the New Dawn Government.
