King Oyo’s 2022 Will Outlining Succession Plan Surfaces

The late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV’s 2022 will has reportedly surfaced, outlining a succession plan for the Tooro throne and naming his biological son as the first heir and successor.

According to the will, if his son is unable to assume the throne, succession would pass to his cousins in the following order:

1. Prince Komwiswa Yoweri
2. Prince Nyaika Solomon

The document has emerged amid an ongoing dispute over who should succeed the late King, putting the position of the royal family at odds with the Babiito succession committee.

The committee recently selected Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, son of the late Prince Christopher Kijanangoma and grandson of former Omukama George David Rukidi III, as its preferred successor following deliberations involving 19 of its 21 members.

The emergence of the purported will adds another layer to the succession debate as consultations over the future leadership of the Tooro Kingdom continue.
