PRESIDENT HICHILEMA EXTENDS OLIVE BRANCH TO ZAMBIANS WHO DID NOT VOTE FOR UPND

President Hakainde Hichilema has extended an olive branch to Zambians who did not vote for him and the United Party for National Development (UPND), calling for unity and collective efforts to develop the country.

President Hichilema said he would remain the President of all Zambians, regardless of their political affiliations, saying every citizen had the democratic right to participate in elections and vote for a candidate of their choice.

He said this in Lusaka on Tuesday during his inauguration ceremony at Heroes Stadium, where he emphasized that Zambians remained one people despite having different political affiliations and ideologies.

“Every Zambian exercised their constitutional right on August 13 general elections by voting, but the majority of citizens gave the UPND another five-year mandate to govern the country,” he said.

President Hichilema said Zambian citizens were the true custodians of democracy because they had the freedom to vote and elect leaders of their choice.

“To all those who chose other political leaders and not the UPND, we respect your choice and we value your democratic right,” President Hichilema said.

He said democracy should not divide the country, even when citizens held different political views, stressing that all Zambians were part of one nation.

President Hichilema further called on citizens to make peace and unity a priority, regardless of their political affiliation.

“Let us promote peace and unity. Without peace and unity we cannot achieve anything,” he said.
