In a statement, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Chipo Kaitisha said the allegations were false and misleading.
“Mr. Mwansa is alive and in good health. His family has also been visiting him, with access being granted in accordance with established procedures,” Ms. Kaitisha said.
She said police strongly condemn the circulation of unverified information, particularly information that has the potential to cause public panic and distress to the affected family and the wider community.
Ms. Kaitisha urged members of the public, social media users, and bloggers to refrain from sharing unverified information and to rely on official police communication for accurate updates.
She added that the Zambia Police Service remains committed to upholding the rights, dignity, safety, and welfare of all persons in its custody in accordance with the law.
