POLICE on the Copperbelt have arrested a 41-year-old Chinese national in connection with an alleged assault on a 19-year-old woman in Copperbelt Province.

Rae Hamoonga, Copperbelt Province Commissioner of Police told the newsroom that the suspect, identified as Zhou Juhua, was arrested following a report filed Sept. 11 at Lufwanyama Police Station. The victim, Lilian Masaka, 19, of Boma Area in Lufwanyama, alleged she was assaulted Sept. 10 at an unknown location in Kalulushi District.

Police said Masaka reported sustaining injuries, including an alleged human bite to her left arm. She was issued a medical report form. An examination later found she had a soft tissue injury to her right wrist.

Police classified the case as Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm, a Gender-Based Violence offense. Zhou, of Chief Nkana Area in Lufwanyama, is in police custody and is expected to appear in court soon.
