POLICE in Solwezi have launched investigations into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 25-year-old man in Kandemba Compound, Kimiteto Area of Solwezi District on Friday afternoon. According to a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer, Godfrey Chilabi, the incident occurred around 15:30 hours on July 10, 2026 at the deceased’s residence.

POLICE in Solwezi have launched investigations into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 25-year-old man in Kandemba Compound, Kimiteto Area of Solwezi District on Friday afternoon.

According to a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer, Godfrey Chilabi, the incident occurred around 15:30 hours on July 10, 2026 at the deceased’s residence. The deceased has been identified as Sarkodie Chibuye, 25. The matter was reported to Kyawama Police Station at 15:50 hours by his elder brother, William Chibuye, 30, of Kyawama Area. Preliminary investigations indicate that Sarkodie arrived at his home around 15:00 hours in the company of two men. Shortly after, neighbors reported hearing a heated argument from the house. Moments later, a single gunshot was heard. The two men who had accompanied the deceased were then seen fleeing the scene. Concerned residents rushed to the house and found Sarkodie lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the upper chest. He was rushed to Solwezi General Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Members of the public gave chase and managed to apprehend one of the suspects, identified only as Kayombo. During the arrest, Kayombo was assaulted by members of the public and sustained serious injuries. Police recovered a Taurus pistol loaded with ammunition from him, which was later handed over to authorities. Kayombo is currently admitted to Solwezi General Hospital under police guard. Police say he will be formally charged with murder once his medical condition improves and investigations are concluded. The second suspect managed to escape and remains at large. The body of the deceased has been deposited at Solwezi General Hospital Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination. “The motive behind the shooting has not yet been established. Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to apprehend the suspect who remains at large,” Mr. Chilabi said.
