ROSEMARY Chipoya of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity has been elected Member of Parliament for Nchanga Constituency after polling 20,302 votes.

Chipoya defeated three other contestants in a race that included popular musician Mulaza Kaira, known as Marky 2.

UPND candidate Franchescar finished second with 7,067 votes. Kaira, who stood as an independent, polled 5,118 votes. Paul Nkonde of Citizens First received 94 votes.

Returning Officer Felix Kahanji announced the results. A total of 33,092 votes were cast, with 511 ballots declared invalid.

In her victory statement, Chipoya thanked voters.

“I am grateful. This was not easy for me, but by God’s grace, we managed. To the people of Nchanga, I am grateful for your support,” Chipoya said.
