GOOD MORNING, MY BROTHER BRIAN MUNDUBILE: THIS IS A MOMENT TO UNITE AND USHER IN A NEW ERA OF POLITICS
================
Good morning, my brother Brian Mundubile.
I wish to appeal to you, not merely as a fellow politician, but as a brother and a leader who now carries an important responsibility in our country’s political life.
The contest is over. The people have spoken, and this should now be a moment for all of us to look beyond the competition and focus on the greater responsibility before us:
building and uniting our country.
Your performance in this election, particularly as a first-time contestant, has been impressive. You have demonstrated that you are a significant political force and have emerged with an important role to play in providing strong, responsible and constructive opposition leadership.
For that reason, I would love to see you come forward and issue a statement of unity, one that acknowledges the outcome, congratulates the winner, thanks your supporters, and reassures the nation that although political competition will continue, Zambia must always come first.
It would send an even more powerful message to the country to see you attending the inauguration of your fellow contestant who emerged victorious. Such a gesture would not diminish you. On the contrary, it would demonstrate political maturity, statesmanship and confidence.
My brother Brian, we have experienced enough acrimony in our politics. There comes a time when leaders must deliberately choose reconciliation over bitterness, dialogue over hostility, and national progress over endless political confrontation.
We cannot develop our country when we are permanently pulling one another in opposite directions. Government must govern, the opposition must provide checks and balances, and both must remember that ultimately we are serving the same people and the same Zambia.
So, my brother Brian, please come out and speak words of unity, peace and progress. Let your supporters hear from you that an election should never turn fellow citizens into enemies.
I make this appeal because I believe you are capable of rising above political pettiness and becoming a formidable but reasonable opposition leader, one who holds those in power accountable while still supporting everything that advances the interests of our country.
That belief in your leadership potential is precisely why I once came to you and urged you to consider running for President.
Now is another defining moment.
Let us close the chapter of the contest with dignity and open a new chapter of unity, responsible opposition and national development.
There will always be another political contest. But between elections, there is only one Zambia, and it belongs to all of us.
TAYALI THE POLITICAL ENGINEER
