More bigwigs tumble as Iris, Jay Jay’s sister Pauline Banda go to Parley

A NUMBER of candidates have continued to be declared duly elected as members of parliament with Iris Kaingu, Andrew Lubusha and Peter Kapala scooping their seats.

The UPND has seemingly taken up most of the Parliamentary seats. Among them is Mazabuka Central which belonged to former UPND Chairperson for Elections Gary Nkombo, now taken up by Vincent Lilanda, Kapala scooped Chifunabuli South, Magoye East has been taken by Malambo Mweemba while Magoye West went to Nachombe Kabunda, Lubusha has taken up Chipangali East.

Moses Moyo scooped Luangeni, Simon Simwanza took Nakonde, Wadden Chileshe won Mporokoso, while in Eastern Province, George Mwanza won Chipata Central, Dr Douglas Lungu took Lusangazi.

Lucky Sichone won Konkola in Chililabombwe, Rashida Mulenga took Chambeshi, while in Western Province, Frederick Misebezi won Sesheke West, Makai Makai took Mongu Central and Mubika Mubika won Shang’ombo South. Ferd Shikabwali won Mwembezhi, while Stanley Kakubo took Kapiri Mposhi West and Davison Matutu won Kapiri Mposhi East. Luano also went to UPND.

The Tonse Alliance has also scooped a number of seats. Chililabombwe, previously held by former Mines Minister Paul Kabuswe, has gone to RP’s Kabwe Lupele. RP’s Chanda Kabwe has also scooped Kantanshi in Mufulira.

Under NRPUP, the alliance has won Kasongo Chomba in Chembe, Danstan Bufungau in Kawambwa, Emmanuel Tembo in Feira, David Mabumba in Mwense, Prudence Mulenga in Kalungwishi, Luka Simumba in Mwenzo, Jackson Ngoma in Chipata North and Chanda Mwansa in Chinsali Central. Both Nyimba North and Nyimba West have also gone to NRPUP.

A number of independent candidates have so far been declared winners which include former health minister Chitalu Chilufya, Bishop Ed Chomba in Kankoyo in Mufulira, Faith Lungu in Malambo East, Vincent Mwale in Chipangali West, Nshamba Muzungu in Mufumbwe, Iris Kaingu in Mwandi, Towani Chipeta in Chasefu North and Anita Kamanga in Chongwe East.

Meanwhile, Resolute Party candidate Emmanuel Mulenga has won the Ndola Central Parliamentary seat after defeating the UPND candidate and former Transport and Logistics Minister Frank Tayali in the 2026 General Election.

Mulenga polled 11,659 votes to reclaim the constituency, while Tayali managed 10,840 votes.

NRPUP candidate Joseph Chilinda finished third with 5,469 votes, while Charles Ngesa of the RAP polled 89 votes.

The results give Mulenga a winning margin of 819 votes over Tayali.

Mulenga previously represented Ndola Central in Parliament from 2016 to 2021 before losing the seat to Tayali in the 2021 General Election. The latest result therefore marks a return to Parliament for the Resolute Party candidate.

Tayali, who represented Ndola Central from 2021 and served as minister of transport and logistics, was seeking to retain the seat on the UPND ticket.

The four candidates collectively received 28,057 votes, with Mulenga taking the largest share and returning to the constituency seat he previously held.

And bidding farewell to his people, former Chililabombwe member of parliament Paul Kabuswe thanked the people of Chililabombwe for having given him an opportunity to be their member of parliament.

In a Facebook post on his official page, Saturday, Kabuswe indicated that he would remain grateful to God, further thanking President Hichilema for having appointed him as minister of mines.

“My heartfelt gratitude goes to the people of Chililabombwe for the trust and confidence you placed in me when you elected me as your area member of parliament in 2021. I remain deeply grateful to Almighty God for His favour, protection and blessings throughout my journey and during the campaigns. I have trusted His timing and guidance at every step, and I continue to place the journey ahead in His hands. I also wish to sincerely thank His Excellency Mr President Hakainde Hichilema for the great honour and privilege of appointing me as Minister of Mines and Minerals Development. Serving in this capacity for the past five years has been a tremendous responsibility and an honour that I will forever cherish. I am grateful for the confidence, trust and opportunity to serve our nation,” posted Kabuswe.

“To the people of Chililabombwe, thank you for standing with me, believing in me and giving me the opportunity to serve you and our country. Your support will always hold a special place in my heart. I further reaffirm my unwavering loyalty, commitment and support to Mr President Hakainde Hichilema and the United Party for National Development (UPND).
