Kulima Tower Bus Station has pledged 100 free buses to transport members of the public to and from the venue of President-elect Hakainde Hichilema’s inauguration.

The initiative will allow commuters to travel free of charge on inauguration day, September 1, 2026, as Zambia prepares for the swearing-in of President-elect Hakainde Hichilema.

Kulima Tower Bus Station Chairman Nicolas Father Banda said the decision to provide the buses was an expression of appreciation for what he described as key achievements and policies implemented under President Hichilema’s leadership.

“In celebration of this victory, 100 buses will be made available free of charge to ferry members of the public to and from the inauguration venue on the day of the event,” Banda stated.

Kulima Tower Backs HH Inauguration

According to Banda, the initiative reflects the support of bus operators, drivers and traders at Kulima Tower for the government’s policies affecting public transport and trading spaces.

For many bus drivers and traders at the station, the removal of political interference and cadreism from bus stations and markets has been among the most visible changes of the past five years.

The free bus initiative is expected to provide an important transport option for members of the public wishing to attend the Hakainde Hichilema inauguration ceremony.

The pledge also represents one of the first major public mobilisation initiatives ahead of the September 1, 2026 presidential inauguration.

100 Free Buses for Inauguration Day

The 100 buses will ferry members of the public to and from the inauguration venue, with commuters not required to pay fares for the designated trips.

The initiative is being viewed as a demonstration of grassroots support from the transport sector, which has been among the sectors affected by government policies aimed at reducing political interference in markets and bus stations.

Zambia is now preparing for the formal swearing-in of President-elect Hakainde Hichilema, with authorities expected to announce further details regarding the inauguration venue and arrangements.
