KREMLIN REJECTS CEASEFIRE: “FREEZING THE WAR IS IMPOSSIBLE”

The Kremlin has once again made its position unmistakably clear.

Responding to Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s call to halt the war, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov rejected the idea outright, declaring that a freeze in the fighting is impossible.

“Freezing is impossible. For us, the main condition is that we must achieve our goals.”

The remarks come just days after Tokayev publicly urged that “the war must be stopped urgently” during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin—a notable appeal from one of Russia’s closest regional partners.

Peskov’s response leaves little room for interpretation.

While Moscow continues to participate in diplomatic contacts and discussions with foreign governments, it has once again stated that it will not end military operations until it believes its objectives have been achieved.

For Ukraine, this statement reinforces what Kyiv has argued for months: Russia is not seeking peace on mutually acceptable terms—it is seeking to achieve its objectives through continued military pressure.

It also comes as Russia continues to mobilize additional manpower, deepen military cooperation with North Korea and Iran, and launch nightly missile and drone attacks against Ukrainian cities.

At the same time, Ukraine has expanded its own long-range strike campaign, increasingly targeting Russian military infrastructure, logistics hubs, oil refineries, and defense industries far from the front.
