PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema on Thursday cast his ballot and urged all registered voters to turn out before polls close at 6 p.m.

“We have cast our ballot, one vote among millions,” Hichilema said after voting. “Five years ago, you placed your trust in us. Today, the decision for the next five years rests where it should. With the people of Zambia.”

Hichilema encouraged voters to bring their green national registration card and voter’s card, and to go with family, friends and neighbors.

“Vote in peace, and let others do the same,” he said. “Democracy is a strength we renew every time we vote, and today it belongs to every citizen who stands patiently in line to have their say.”

He called on citizens to “go and vote in huge numbers” and closed with a prayer for the nation.

“Democracy is a strength we renew every time we vote,” he said. “Go and vote in huge numbers. May God bless you all, and may God bless our great nation.”
