The Lusaka Magistrate Court has sentenced 54-year-old Henry Shula Kasolo to seven years imprisonment with hard labour after convicting him of trafficking in 73.9 kilogrammes of compressed high-grade cannabis.

According to a statement issued by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) on Thursday, September 10, 2026, Kasolo was convicted in connection with the trafficking of 117 packs of compressed cannabis, which had a combined weight of 73.9 kilogrammes.

The DEC said Kasolo, described by the Commission as a notorious drug trafficker, was arrested in June 2025 in Lusaka District, Lusaka Province.

At the time of his arrest, the cannabis was allegedly concealed inside four suitcases, according to the Commission.

The DEC further reported that officers seized US$10,200 and K6,000 in cash, which the Commission said was reasonably believed to be proceeds of crime.

A Toyota Hilux motor vehicle allegedly used in the commission of the illicit activity was also seized during the operation.

The Commission described the court outcome as a landmark judgment, saying it demonstrated the dedication and professionalism of its officers involved in the investigation.

According to the DEC, the case involved intelligence gathering, strengthened inter-agency investigations that crossed borders and prosecution by the National Prosecution Authority (NPA).

Following Kasolo’s conviction and sentencing, the DEC said it has also instituted investigations into assets linked to his illicit activities as part of efforts to ensure that crime does not pay.

The Commission said the latest court outcome demonstrates its continued commitment to investigating drug-related offences and ensuring that people involved in illicit activities face the law.

The DEC has meanwhile warned members of the public against engaging in activities that threaten the safety, security and development of the country.

The Commission has also urged members of the public to report suspicious activities to relevant authorities to help prevent, detect and combat crime.

The sentencing of Kasolo comes as authorities continue efforts to disrupt the trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs in Zambia, with law enforcement agencies increasingly targeting both the movement of drugs and the assets believed to be connected to criminal activities.
