Tears, prayer and desperation filled a small living room on Monday as Dinis Ngandu Kafwaya made a public appeal for the government to tell her what has happened to her husband, former minister Mutotwe Kafwaya.

Sitting with other women from Tabernacle of David Church, a visibly distraught Mrs Kafwaya said the family has not heard from him since Friday and fears the worst.

“I last saw him on Friday morning and we spoke around midday,” she said, voice shaking. “At 17:00 I started calling. His phone rings but no one answers. Up to now.”

Her plea comes days after special forces raided the residence of National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity leader Brian Mundubile.

According to Mrs Kafwaya, Mundubile told the nation that he saw her husband being shot twice during the operation.

“The state said friends were apprehended. But his name was not on the list,” she said.

“Brian told me he saw him being shot. I am asking the government to help me find my husband, whether dead or alive. We cannot move forward. We don’t know whether to prepare a funeral.”

She broke down as she described the impact on their children. “The children are affected. They are missing school, missing exams. This is affecting my health too. We need closure.”

In the video, women around her wept and comforted each other. One held her head in her hands while another placed a hand on her back.

The room was silent except for Mrs Kafwaya’s voice and quiet sobs.

The raid at Mundubile’s home last week sparked outrage from opposition parties, who called it intimidation.

Authorities have said the operation was part of ongoing investigations, but have not released a full list of those detained or their current status.

As of Monday evening, the Department of Home Affairs and Internal Security had not issued a statement on Kafwaya’s whereabouts.

Kafwaya said the family has written to relevant ministries seeking urgent permission to see him.

“We are just asking for the truth,” she said, placing a hand over her heart. “Give us our husband back. Or tell us where he is.”

The family says it will continue to appeal through official channels and to the public until it receives answers.
