Nickel prices on the global market have continued fluctuating, with recent official data indicating that Nickel prices experienced a modest decline to $16,762.00 per tonne compared to $17,270.00 per tonne the previous week.

This represents a 3% decrease in price week-overweek. Industry analysts have raised concerns that ongoing price fluctuations could pose challenges for producers, however, some major producers, such as FQM Trident, have reaffirmed their commitment to existing production targets.

Responding to questions from the Zambian Business Times (ZBT) regarding the recent fluctuations in nickel prices and their potential impact on production targets, FQM Trident Head of Public Relations, Mirriam Harmon, stated that current market conditions have not affected the company’s production plans.

“Current nickel prices are not impacting our production,” Harmon said. “While we acknowledge the inherent price volatility in the global market, FQM Trident remains committed to its production targets.

Our recently released second quarter results reaffirm this commitment, with nickel production guidance maintained at between 30,000 and 40,000 tonnes for 2026.” Harmon further disclosed that in the first quarter, FQM Trident produced 12,340 tonnes of nickel, followed by 11,246 tonnes in the second quarter, a 9% decrease from the previous quarter.

This brings the year-to-date total to 23,586 tonnes, keeping the company on track to meet its annual guidance of 40,000 tonnes. “current Nickel prices are not affecting production. Even though the potential exists due to price volatility on the global market.

Fqm just released q2 results and kept nickel guidance at between 30 and 40 thousand. However, we had 41,270 tonnes of nickel. Q1 performance, we did 12,340 tonnes of Nickel and Q2 we did 11,246, 9% lower than Q1 bringing a total of of year to date of 23, 586 which signifies that we are in line with the market guidance of 40,000tonnes for the year 2026.”

“Our performance so far this year demonstrates that we are well-aligned with our production targets, despite fluctuations in the global nickel market,” Harmon added.
