LUSAKA — The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has announced the first batch of consolidated results from four of the country’s 226 constituencies, marking the beginning of the official national results process.

The results, announced at about 11pm CAT after the scheduled 10pm announcement was delayed, cover Kaputa Constituency in Northern Province, Chisamba Central, Dongo in North-Western Province and Feira in Lusaka Province.

The commission announced that, in the four constituencies combined, President Hakainde Hichilema has so far polled 22,476 votes, while NRP-UP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has recorded 14,388 votes.

The ECZ did not announce the consolidated figures for the other presidential candidates in the first batch.

The commission said it will announce the exact time for the release of the second batch of results by 9am tomorrow.

The final results are expected to be announced by August 17, 2026.

The commencement of the results announcement comes after delays caused by the commission’s decision to temporarily suspend the process earlier on Friday, citing violence and security concerns.

The decision to suspend the results process attracted strong criticism from various political stakeholders, with concerns raised over the impact of the suspension on public confidence in the electoral process.

The ECZ has since resumed the consolidation and announcement of results as election authorities continue processing results from constituencies across the country.

The four constituencies announced tonight represent only a small portion of the 226 constituencies, meaning the figures released so far cannot yet be used to determine the overall national outcome.

The results process will continue as the ECZ receives, verifies and consolidates results from the remaining constituencies.

Zambians and international observers are closely following the process as the commission works towards announcing the final presidential results by August 17.
