Citizens First President Harry Kalaba has dismissed speculation surrounding his presidential candidature following the defection of his running mate, Moses Mawere, saying there is no cause for concern.
Speaking during a radio interview in Mpika, Mr. Kalaba assured supporters that a new Vice President would be appointed before a new government is sworn in if Citizens First wins the August 13 General Election.
“Don’t worry. We’ll appoint a new Vice President before swearing-in after we win the elections,” Mr. Kalaba said.
His remarks come days after Mawere left Citizens First to join the Tonse Alliance, a move that prompted debate on social media over whether the defection affected Mr. Kalaba’s eligibility to remain in the presidential race.
Mr. Kalaba did not indicate who could replace Mr. Mawere but maintained that his campaign remains on course.
The Citizens First leader is contesting this year’s election under the CF Orange Alliance.
