Azerbaijan Seeks to De-escalate Growing Turkey-Israel Tensions
Azerbaijan is reportedly working behind the scenes to ease growing tensions between Turkey and Israel, according to Israeli media outlet Ynet, citing Israeli and Azerbaijani sources.
Baku is said to be increasingly concerned by the deterioration in relations between the two countries, viewing both Ankara and Jerusalem as important friends and partners.
An Azerbaijani official reportedly described the situation as “crazy,” saying:
“Azerbaijan sees what is happening now as madness. It considers both countries to be its friends.”
The official warned that if Turkey and Israel were to enter into a direct conflict, Azerbaijan could face pressure to choose sides.
“If Turkey and Israel go to war, Azerbaijan would be forced to take the side of one of them. Therefore, the tensions must be de-escalated quickly.”
Baku’s reported efforts reflect Azerbaijan’s delicate position as it seeks to maintain close strategic relations with both Turkey and Israel while avoiding being drawn into a potential confrontation between them.
