Government has disbursed about K1.3 million to Kalumbila District for the implementation of the July 2026 revised Cash for Work (CFW) Programme.

Speaking in an interview with media in Kalumbila, Assistant Public Relations Officer Betsheba Lubumbe said the allocation reaffirms the Government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable households through temporary employment while improving community infrastructure.

Ms Lubumbe said the recruitment of beneficiaries took place from July 13 to 15, 2026 across the district’s respective wards, after which a verification exercise is being conducted before community works commence this month.

She explained that successful beneficiaries will undertake labour-intensive public works, including environmental cleaning, drainage maintenance, road reserve clearing and other community improvement activities for a period of 10 days, during which they will earn temporary income.

Ms Lubumbe noted that the Revised Cash for Work Programme forms part of the Government’s broader social protection agenda aimed at strengthening household resilience, promoting community participation and improving the environment.

She further said the programme has been expanded from 123 constituencies in 87 drought-affected districts to all constituencies across Zambia, in the 116 districts enabling more eligible citizens to benefit from the Government initiative.

Ms Lubumbe added that the release of the funds reflects the Government’s continued commitment to cushioning vulnerable households while supporting community development through labour-intensive public works.
