DEPUTY HEAD TEACHER – SECONDARY Company: Zambia Sugar Plc School: Nakambala Private School Location: Mazabuka, Zambia Contract: Fixed-term Application deadline: 2 September 2026 Zambia Sugar Plc invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Deputy Head Teacher – Secondary at Nakambala Private School. Reporting to the Head Teacher, this senior leadership role combines subject expertise with strong administrative and organisational skills to support academic excellence, effective school management and compliance with national education standards. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Examinations Management • Prepare the school for Grade 9 and 12 national examinations in line with Examinations Council of Zambia regulations. • Ensure secure storage of examination papers and supervise invigilators to prevent malpractice. • Prepare examination rooms and brief candidates on examination guidelines. • Collaborate with external examiners and prepare examination reports for ECZ. Admissions and Induction • Receive and induct new pupils. • Organise and oversee selection tests with transparency and accountability. • Enrol pupils accepted by the Head Teacher. Pupil Welfare and Discipline • Uphold the school Code of Conduct, dress code and road-safety regulations. • Chair the Disciplinary Committee and handle pupil cases before escalation. • Promote participation in clubs, sports and co-curricular activities. • Supervise prefects and ensure teachers mark attendance registers daily. Curriculum and Instructional Oversight • Ensure teachers prepare schemes of work, records of work, lesson plans and teaching aids in line with the approved curriculum. • Inspect and approve teaching documents and end-of-term tests. • Monitor science practicals, production-unit activities and curriculum adherence. • Organise educational tours, field trips and in-house curriculum workshops. • Ensure procurement of appropriate textbooks and learning materials. Scheduling and Academic Support • Prepare and manage the school schedule each term. • Ensure adherence to schedules by teachers and pupils. • Prepare personal schemes of work, records of work and lesson plans. • Administer weekly, monthly and termly tests and support remedial learning. • Organise school assemblies and encourage co-curricular participation. Career Guidance and Counselling • Guide pupils on career aspirations. • Register Grade 9 and 12 examination candidates and manage examination fees. • Analyse examination results and issue statements of results and certificates. Administrative Duties • Serve as the principal assistant to the Head Teacher and act in their absence. • Support management of the Parent-Teacher Association. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS • Full Grade 12 Certificate. • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, with specialisation in Mathematics. • A Master’s Degree will be an added advantage. • Preferably 5–7 years of teaching experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role. • Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills. • Demonstrated ability to inspire staff and students towards excellence. • Knowledge of Zambian education policies and standards. • Certificates must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority.
