Accountant Opportunity at LIAS University College – Lusaka, Zambia LIAS University College invites applications for the position of Accountant. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing comprehensive financial operations on a contract basis. Key Responsibilities for Accountant Jobs in Lusaka Financial Management & Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor and analyze accounting data; reconcile general ledger accounts; oversee month-end and year-end closing processes; ensure compliance with internal policies and tax regulations; provide financial insights to support strategic management decisions. Cost & Revenue Accounting: Track and analyze operational costs including fuel, maintenance, and transport expenses. Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight: Supervise accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely invoicing, collections, and payments; maintain up-to-date reconciliations of vendor and customer accounts. Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in preparing annual budgets and periodic forecasts; monitor budget performance and explain variances. Tax & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) and other statutory bodies such as NAPSA and NHIMA; prepare and file VAT, Withholding Tax, PAYE, and Income Tax returns; liaise with external auditors and tax authorities as required. Asset & Fleet Accounting: Maintain the fixed asset register and ensure accurate depreciation; collaborate with operations to reconcile performance with financial records. Internal Controls & Risk Management: Develop and enforce internal controls to safeguard financial integrity; identify opportunities for process improvement and risk mitigation. Team Supervision: Oversee junior accountants and clerks; provide training and ongoing support to the finance team. Qualifications and Experience Required Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional qualifications such as CA Zambia, ACCA, or equivalent are advantageous. Membership of ZICA is mandatory. Minimum of five years’ experience in a similar accounting role, preferably within academic institutions. Strong knowledge of Zambian tax legislation and statutory filing procedures including ZRA, NAPSA, and NHIMA. Proven expertise in managing multi-entity accounting within a growing institution. Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, SAP, or equivalent packages. Exceptional attention to detail, integrity, analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent communication abilities. Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
